Spring Newsletter 2022

Welcome to our Spring Newsletter!

Not only is Spring well and truly on it’s way, but it’s our birthday!
We’re 4 years old this month!     (Time flies when you’re having fun!)

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being here to meet and help all the lovely folk of Stourbridge, and I can’t wait to see what the next 4 years has in store.

See you soon!

Babies to get new test for eye cancer in the womb to save their sight

NHS England has announced that a life saving test is being rolled out allowing doctors to spot a rare form of eye cancer in babies in the womb.

Symptoms of retinoblastoma are hard to detect and a diagnosis can normally only be made once the tumour has progressed and the eye can’t be saved.

The new test, developed at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, identifies babies at risk of developing retinoblastoma so they can be monitored and treated sooner – increasing the chance of saving their eyesight and potentially their lives.
The test is non-invasive and can detect changes in the genes in DNA. It is likely to identify around 50 infants with retinoblastoma each year.

A Helping Hand

We know that times aren’t easy for a lot of us at the moment, so we’ve been working on ways we can help. Not only have we become a registered collection point for the Black Country Food Bank, but we have launched our Stourbridge Glasses Repair.
Old donated pairs of spectacles are cleaned, broken down and their parts used to provide free repairs to the people of Stourbridge.
You can help too! If you’d like to donate to the Black Country Food Bank or you’re clearing out some old pairs of glasses, drop them off into store any time.
